Independent Living

Created by STEPScic, ‘Flightpath – A Level of Learning to Suit the Individual’ allows our attendees to go on a journey of achievement, individually tailored to meet their needs.   Abigail and Katie are following the Independent Living Flightpath and are currently developing their skills and independence in the kitchen.  Not only are Katie and Abigail developing their food preparation skills but also their knowledge of working safely, storing food and drink appropriately and cleaning the kitchen. Their developing knowledge will enable them both to work towards an Entry Level 3 Open Awards qualification in Independent Living.

Landgate School Visit

It was a pleasure to welcome Landgate School to our Ince base this morning. Students chose to take part in our sporting activities and thoroughly enjoyed working alongside our current attendees as they warmed up, developed their ball control and competed in a penalty shoot out. It was lovely to receive such positive feedback and hear that our attendees were ‘great ambassadors’ for STEPScic. Our staff and attendees thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Personal Development

Flightpath – A Level of Learning to Suit the Individual’ has been designed by STEPScic to meet the goals and aspirations of all our attendees.  Jack’s goal is to plant and grow a raspberry plant, therefore Jack is currently following the Personal Development Flightpath.  Through accessing our gardening workshops Jack has identified the plants that he wants to grow, he has been supported to purchase the plants and he has followed the process of soil preparation, tool selection, planting and plant aftercare.  We look forward to seeing Jack harvest the fruit in the new year.

Employment Skills

It’s fantastic to see our ‘Flightpath – A level of Learning to Suit the Individual’ in action. Jason would like to work in a hairdressing salon and is therefore following the employment flightpath. He is currently working towards an Entry Level 3 award in Hairdressing Skills under the guidance of our experienced Hairdresser. Jason has been learning about the main hair types and conditions, client preparation, shampoo and conditioning as well as safe and hygienic working practices. Jason’s regular client has given excellent feedback on his developing skills and growing confidence.

Model Village

Stunningly beautiful landscaped gardens with handcrafted models and figures was the setting for today’s photography session.  Inspired by the work of Vatsal Kataria our photographers focused their cameras on the diminutive residents of the Tudor Village, the thatched cottages and castles and achieved some amazing shots.  We would like to thank Blackpool Model Village and Gardens for a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Woodwork

Some fantastic work is taking place at our woodwork site in Golborne.  Our attendees work on a variety of products of which the choice is their own.  Our woodwork site creates a work environment with all the facilities and equipment required to enable individuals to access a real-life work experience.  Attendees are able to work towards nationally recognised qualifications in building and construction under the supervision of fully qualified staff.

Footgolf

‘Wow, what a fantastic day’, is what was said after today’s footgolf.  The day was created to meet the wishes of one of our attendees and all those who attended had lots of fun.  Our attendees loved practicing their precision shots and the competition was fierce.  It was a close game with only three points separating everyone but a huge congratulations goes to Ryan who was today’s champion.   Fantastic to see great camaraderie and sportsmanship between the lads.

Peacock Fashion

Work has been continuing over the last few months towards garments for our fashion show, with inspiration being taken from a wide range of sources.  The ‘Peacock’ dress is one of our most recent creations with each attendee using print techniques to create a number of individual peacock feathers for both the bodice and the skirt.  The individual pieces were then brought together to create an eye-catching, collaborative piece.  Our attendees in art and design, textiles and hair and beauty are excited at being able to showcase their work at our forthcoming fashion show and details for this event will be issued in due course.

The training of our staff is important as we ensure that our attendees get the best possible opportunities for development. With this in mind, we recently enrolled our staff football coach Ian on a football coaching course with Lancashire FA.   We are pleased to announce that Ian has achieved a 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football. Ian’s qualification will ensure our attendees have appropriate sessions with safe and engaging practices. Ian is seen here with his certificate and some members of the football team.
