Tuck Shop

stepscic_word_p No Comments

As part of the ‘Skills for Further Learning and Employment’ courses, attendees have determined skills and qualities that they are good at and chosen a couple that they would like to improve.  Paul has wanted to improve in the area of selling goods, therefore, to enable him to gain experience in this area a tuck shop has been created.   This has enabled Paul to engage with customers, explain cost and healthy options before making a sale and taking payment.  Paul’s confidence in selling has developed and he has demonstrated excellent customer service skills.  A huge congratulations to Paul for his success in this area.

‘Around the World in 80 Days’ is the theme as our Photographers start in France. Our attendees were introduced to composition, taking mouth-watering shots of French food before sampling their subject matter.  The Photographers went on to create amazing effects with the green screen, transporting each other to France using the computer software, with fantastic results.

It’s always a pleasure to welcome Oakfield School and College students to Ashland House. Students have enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities including sport, art, hair and beauty, whilst also enjoying our recreational activities of gaming and darts. Some students have even taken advantage of our onsite salon to have their own hair styled and cut. It was fantastic to receive such positive feedback ‘students had an amazing time’, ‘A really lovely relaxing environment’. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

Landgate School were the perfect dinner party hosts today as they hosted their very own ‘Come Dine With Me’.  A scrumptious lunch of chicken curry and rice and chocolate cake was polished off by Landgate students and our attendees before enjoying a sensory experience. We would like to thank Landgate school for inviting us to their ‘Come Dine With Me’ and we are looking forward to hosting the event in the next couple of weeks.

‘Flightpath – A Level of leaning to suit the individual’, has been created by STEPScic to enable attendees to work towards their primary goal or aspiration whether that be work, independant living or personal development.   It’s fantastic to see our attendees progressing along their individual journey at our wood workshop.  A real-life work experience enables our attendees to develop their personal and employment skills whilst developing their knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.  Several of our attendees are working towards Entry Level 3 in Skills for Further Learning and Employment whilst others are working towards their own personal targets.  We are very proud of our attendees and the progress that they are making.

A group of our attendees have visited the Thomas Linacre Outpatients Centre as part of our Health and Wellbeing sessions.  This visit focused on the Ears, Nose and Throat Department and enabled our attendees to experience an Outpatients visit, therefore developing knowledge and understanding and overcoming any fears.  We would like to thank Bridgewater Trust and the staff at Thomas Linacre Outpatients Centre for a thoroughly enjoyable and informative experience.

Happy New Year

What a fantastic year 2019 has been for STEPScic!

We’ve welcomed new staff who have enhanced our service delivery and welcomed new attendees who have formed new friendships.  We have enjoyed working and learning together and all had so much fun with sports days, camping experiences, BBQ’s and social events, to name but a few.

We’ve seen lots of success through personal progression as well as nationally recognised certification through Open Awards and enjoyed celebrating this success.  It was fantastic to see the achievements of our attendees being recognised in the local newspaper.

We’ve launched our individualised learning journey ‘Flightpath’ in which everyone can work towards their own personal goal or aspiration and are already seeing the benefits of this.

We’ve welcomed school visits and thoroughly enjoyed working with the young people.  It’s been lovely to receive such fantastic feedback, one example being, STEPScic is ‘very welcoming and provides many opportunities’.

We’ve welcomed Wigan Council to do our quality review and received excellent feedback with one comment being, ‘The service you provide to vulnerable customers has been recognised as being of a high quality’ with ‘many positive practices’ being demonstrated across the service. This high quality of service provision has also been recognised by our attendees with many asking for additional days and parents commenting ‘an excellent service that we all find invaluable’.

As we welcome in the New Year, we would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of 2019 and we look forward to working with you as we move forward in 2020.  Happy New Year!
