‘High Quality Service’

stepscic_word_p No Comments

The service you provide to vulnerable customers has been recognised of being of a high quality and you have every reason to be proud of what you do’ is the statement made by a representative of Wigan Council this week after completion of our most recent quality review.  STEPScic has been recognised as demonstrating ‘many positive practices’ across the service.  The council’s review has also coincided with our parental questionnaire which has again highlighted our many strengths with parents commenting ‘The staff are very concerned about the welfare of their attendees and are always very willing and keen to help/support them’, ‘an excellent service that we all find invaluable’ and ‘great service for my son, he’s gained such a lot since attending’.  The review process has also been a welcome opportunity for a number of our Attendees to express their wishes of attending STEPScic for additional days, this is again due to the high quality of service and choice that we provide and the conscious improvements that we have made over the last 18 months.   It’s been fantastic to receive such endorsements from Wigan Council, Parents/Carers and especially our Attendees as we ensure that we continue to be a leading provider to adults with learning disabilities.

Back by popular demand, this week has seen the return of our camping experience and sports day. A thoroughly enjoyable week which has seen teambuilding, competition and a fantastic way to welcome some of our new attendees. From pitching tents and playing cricket to competing in the egg and spoon and tug of war, we have had some truly hilarious and memorable moments.

Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester was the perfect location yesterday for our photography group to explore the theme ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’.   Our photographers thoroughly enjoyed developing their skills in the Air and Space Hall, capturing the cars, bikes and aeroplanes that got industrial Manchester moving.  They then went on to capture Stephenson’s Rocket, an early steam locomotive that won the Rainhill Trials 1829 to become the best locomotive to serve the Manchester to Liverpool railway.  A fantastic experience for all with some amazing images being captured.   Well done to everyone!

Farm to Fork

From ‘Farm to Fork’! It’s been fantastic to use such fresh produce grown by our very own hands in our lunch today.  Peas, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions and strawberries have all been successfully grown at our polytunnel and raised beds.  Our attendees have thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the process of ‘Farm to Fork’ from growing, picking, preparing, cooking, serving and finally eating.  A scrumptious lunch has been produced which was thoroughly enjoyed.  A huge congratulations goes to everyone who has been involved throughout the process and especially to Steven for achieving todays ‘Masterchef’.

It was fantastic to welcome Wigan Warriors star Taulima Tautai this morning when he came to our Ashland House base to present us with a Wigan Warriors shirt signed by the Wigan Warriors squad.  The shirt was worn by Taulima in the Wigan V Warrington Game at the recent Magic Weekend at Anfield and is extra special as it commemorates the 30 year Milwaukee anniversary, which is when Wigan played Warrington in the USA.  Our attendees were thrilled to be able to meet Taulima and were excited to receive his autograph.  We would like to thank Taulima for taking the time to visit us today and for supporting STEPScic.

Bags for Life

The last couple of weeks have seen our environmentally conscious attendees creating bags for life.  Each bag has been created using surplus fabric that was kindly donated to STEPScic.  Each attendee cut out and then stitched together their fabric using the sewing machine, creating fantastic reusable bags.

Sculpting with willow is a recent addition to our 3D Art and Design sessions. This medium has provided a new experience in which our attendees can continue to develop their practical skills, confidence building and problem-solving skills.  A real sense of pride and ownership was achieved when the butterfly sculpture finally came together.  A huge congratulations to all involved, the sculptures looked fantastic.
